eNews - June 11, 2021

Happy Friday Church Family!

It's hard to believe we're well into June, but time is flying by! There are several updates and pieces of information in this week's Enews so please be sure to read everything and scroll to the bottom so you won't miss any updates. New Hope is growing and committed to continue Living Out The Gospel Together as we move forward as a church.

We're so excited to blast off for VBS in only 10 days (June 21-25) and we need YOUR HELP to make it the amazing success it has always been! One of our big needs right now is folks willing to help feed our volunteers and there are two ways you can help: first, we need people to run the breakroom/volunteer food area by replenishing snacks and drinks, keeping things well stocked for our volunteers as they come and go throughout the morning; the second way we need help is with food donations. If you can drop food off and show the LOVE to our wonderful volunteers, we'd sure appreciate it!

Please CLICK HERE to sign up and plan to drop the food off to the church kitchen! If you can volunteer to help keep the break room running and replenished, even one day of the week, please CLICK HERE. We appreciate you and your commitment to the hundreds of folks we have the privilege of serving at VBS!

There are also several items Pam would appreciate if you happen to have them at home and are willing to donate them. All besides the silver duct tape will be returned to you:

Slide projectors

Lava lamps

Black lights

LED Tape Lights/ Rope Lights

Silver duct tape

Desktop Kinetic Art  (see example pictures)

We appreciate your help and support, as well as your prayers, as we prepare to serve our community through VBS!

It's been exciting to see so many Connect Groups grow and flourish over the last couple months! From book clubs to coffee groups, pickleball to watercolors and lots more in between, Connect Groups are one of the best ways to meet new people and continue to live out one of core values: Caring Community! There are a few new groups and many existing ones continuing to meet throughout the Summer months so be sure to take a look at the options and get involved today!  You can see the latest groups or to find out more about Connect Groups in general by CLICKING HERE.

Each Tuesday at noon, all are invited to gather for a time of purposeful prayer for our church, nation and other needs in Room 211.

We also have a monthly, evening prayer time here on campus if daytime isn't a possibility for you. Jim Mayer leads us as we pray for our ministry and those around the world.

The Wednesday night adult Bible study is continuing throughout the Summer. Looking at Old and New Testament scriptures and seeing how ALL of the Bible points to Jesus has been an underlying theme as well as personal application of the verses to discern what He's doing in us as believers. While the group is not in a "series" per se,  they're continuing to look at scripture through that lens. All are welcome and you can also view from anywhere by clicking here.

Our Mom's Book Club Connect Group featuring Mama Bear Apologetics: Empowering Your Kids To Challenge Cultural Lies kicked off last week with great excitement. Gathering on Tuesday evenings from 6pm-8pm on the New Hope campus, these women are tackling issues to better equip their children and families to form their own biblical beliefs about what is true and false. Teaching children how to think through and address issues head on with gentleness and respect is one of the goals these mamas are aiming for with this book study. It's not too late for any mom to join, click here to email Jackie for more information.

The Summer Choir will sing on June 6, June 20, July 4, July 18, August 1, August 15, and August 29. If you would like to sing as part of the choir on one of these Sundays, please join us for rehearsal at 9am in the choir loft and plan to sing in the 9:30am morning service. Just prior to the sermon, the choir goes to sit in the sanctuary. Please contact Ben Ball with any questions.

Student Ministry is Summer ready and their first event happens on Friday, June 18 at 6pm at the Elliotts' house (1621 Linhart Ave, 33901)! It's going to be an amazing night of everyone's favorite game, ZOOKERBALL (imagine kickball but with waterslides, shaving cream, and a few other surprises thrown in). If you have a 6th-12th grader, you don't want to miss this super adventurous night of food and the craziest game you've ever played in someone's yard! Contact Dena if you need details.

Dear Church Family,

While COVID is still affecting a lot of people, through vaccines and “herd immunity” it’s safe to say that by God’s grace, we’ve turned the corner.  I want you to know that our church has weathered that storm and the pandemic very well!

  • We were able to switch to a fully digital format when the church was closed and many new people were introduced to our church online
  • We’ve welcomed several new members this year
  • We’ve successfully launched Connect Groups, which are thriving all around SWFL
  • We've been able to return to many of our pre-Covid ministries here on campus and throughout the community
  • Our finances are stable and, given all the disruptions, we are only slightly lower in contributions than pre COVID, which is a testimony to God’s provision and your faithfulness!
  • AND- we’re grateful and thrilled to be on track to pay off our campus mortgage in 2021, only 5 years after opening at our current location, PRAISE GOD!

We’ve also had a major disruption in Senior leadership which has given us the opportunity to pause and reflect on how we will move forward and who the Lord would have lead through this next season of ministry.  The best way to do that is to engage in a process of reflection and self examination as a church.  The optimum way to do that is to bring in someone to lead us through that process.  Recently, the senior pastor search committee resigned as a group in order to show unity in their desire to do what was best for the church and to pave the way for a part-time transitional pastor to be brought in by the Session.  This is something strongly recommended by our denomination and by those who have navigated these waters in previous times.  I am really excited to engage in this process. When it is completed and the church is ready for receiving a new senior pastor, another search committee will be elected by the congregation.

During that time, I’m committed to remaining here at New Hope as your Associate Pastor and will continue to be the primary teaching pastor during this transitional phase we’re now experiencing. This transitional phase we’re in is a very good thing as it allows us time to pause, heal, think, plan, pray, and in all ways unite around the Ephesians 3:20-21 things God has in store for New Hope!

I’m enthusiastic about ministry here at New Hope, moving our church forward with our vision and values and building a strong church community. Our mission remains, we’re continuing to live out the Gospel TOGETHER as we look towards the coming months and years, what a wonderful time to be a part of our church family!

Peace & Blessings,
Pastor Mike
