"HELPING HANDS" Men's Clothing Drive

THIS SUNDAY, October 19, is the last day to bring in donations for our Men’s Clothing Drive!

Now through October 19, New Hope is collecting donations of gently-used men’s clothing (sizes S-XXL), belts, socks, and shoes for Fort Myers Rescue Mission. FMRM provides Bible studies and discipleship groups for the men living there. Their vision is to provide a way and a hope for men who have come to the end of their rope financially, physically, mentally, and spiritually. The men sleep, eat, learn, and study on the campus of the mission and can even earn a GED. They are offered resources to attain consistent paying jobs and many see total transformation of their lives from sinful habits and addictions. Thank you for your donations to this vital ministry!

YOUNG ADULTS MINISTRY

This Sunday, October 19, at 7pm is our next Young Adults Ministry night for those who have graduated high school and are between 18-29. We meet in Room 212 at 7pm on the first and third Sunday of each month for food, games, worship, and a message from God’s Word. See you Sunday!

WELCOME, NEW MEMBERS!

This Sunday, October 19, we will be receiving new members at both of our morning services. Please join us in welcoming them to the New Hope family!

Join Pastor Sheldon on Wednesday nights for an insightful Bible study, "The Case for Christ," inspired by the bestselling book by Lee Strobel. Dive into an investigation of the life of Jesus through historical evidence and expert testimony. Witness the compelling evidence that transformed Strobel from skepticism to faith, and challenge your perspective. This study will deepen your faith and equip you to discuss the evidence for Jesus with others.

Women, join us on Wednesday nights as we delve into the powerful teachings of the Book of Romans. This study offers an enriching exploration of faith, grace, and the transformative power of the Gospel. Participate in discussions, deepen your understanding of theological concepts, and connect with fellow women as we unpack the Apostle Paul’s profound letter to the Romans. This journey will enhance your spiritual growth and enrich your faith. All women are welcome!

Join us on Thursday, October 23, at noon for a lunch and learn session about dementia and the caregiver's role, presented by Christine Le Conte, the Executive Director of the Dubin Center. The Dubin Center is a local nonprofit agency focused on supporting families affected by dementia. This engaging presentation will cover brain health, dementia, and how to foster connections throughout the journey. You'll gain practical tips for managing brain health and participate in an experiential activity designed to deepen understanding of the patient and caregiver experience.

KIDS MINISTRY UPDATE

This month’s theme – “Wisdomland: God can help you make the wise choice” – is inspired by all the ups and downs of a theme park roller coaster. The kings of Israel and Judah brought the nation to its pinnacle when they wisely chose to worship and honor God. And they led the nation down some stomach-dropping dips and ultimate derailment through their foolish decisions. Kids will discover that even though they may not be leading a nation, their choices matter deeply in their lives and the lives of the people around them. We are also having a blast on Wednesday nights as we play big games and dive in our weekly study on The Armor of God.

Tailgate Sunday is coming! This church-wide celebration is the perfect opportunity to invite friends to join you and spend time with your church family on Sunday, November 9, at 12:15pm! We’ll enjoy a BBQ lunch, live music by Redeemed Band, axe throwing, inflatables for the kids, a preschool play area, lawn games, archery, and more. Buy your tikets below and plan to join us!

STUDENTS MINISTRY UPDATES

Sunday and Wednesday Common Ground

We are continuing to meet on both Sunday mornings and Wednesday evenings! This past week, the youth played a fun game involving transferring flour from one person’s card to the next - the catch? You had to hold the card in your mouth! Last Wednesday, students learned about lament when studying Psalm 23:3 “He restores my soul,” and they learned a Bible Study technique this past Sunday that helps make personal connections to the text. Continue to pray for our youth to have a personal experience with the Lord and to grow in boldness as they are presented with opportunities to share Christ with others!

Different by Design: “Shake it Up” Event

This past Sunday, the youth group met up at Wa-Ke Hatchee Park for a combined evening of basketball, volleyball, and other outdoor games! Matthew led the group in a Bible Study of John 15 where they learned that, “We never imagine that getting our heart's deepest desires might be the worst thing that can ever happen to us" (Tim Keller). To find true joy in life, we are to abide in Christ.

Thrift Store Costume Contest: Saturday, October 18 • 2-5pm

Calling all middle school and high school students! We will meet at New Hope tomorrow for our annual Thrift Store Costume Contest! Students will be split into groups; groups will travel to local thrift stores to create group-themed costumes. Upon their return, they will create a 1-3 minute skit and will choose a runway song. Groups will present their skits and walk down the runway before the judge determines Best Overall and winners of other various categories! No registration is required. Bring your friends and see you there!

Halloween Party: Sunday, October 26 • 5-8pm

Meet us at New Hope in your Halloween costumes or dressed in your best Halloween spirit! Bring a pumpkin for our pumpkin painting contest. This evening will also feature Halloween-themed games and treats. Dinner will be provided. Grab a friend and we’ll see you there!

ECHO TOUR RECAP

We thoroughly enjoyed learning about ECHO's global farm and the various ways their initiatives support communities worldwide. If you participated in the farm tour, you might be wondering how to get more involved. Alternatively, if you missed the tour but are eager to partner with this remarkable organization, there's an opportunity for you. ECHO has invited New Hope to contribute by providing food and serving at one of the meals during their International Conference on November 11. You can find more information about volunteer opportunities and sign up through the link below. Your hospitality is greatly appreciated by ECHO and all who are working to combat hunger globally!

Dunbar Basketball Boosters

New Hope is gearing up for a new season of Tiger basketball! Join us in cheering on the 2025-2026 team and supporting these guys who have been diligently preparing for their season.

Interested in how you can be involved?

You can pray! Please pray for unity of the team as they begin their season, for all the students at Dunbar in their academic year, that they would continually pursue integrity, and pray for the teachers/coaches who put much effort and time into building up young men and women of character.

Come cheer for the Tigers at a game! Click here for the game schedule for this season or pick one up from the Mission Table in the Lobby at the church and then attend some games and invite a friend or Sunday School class to join you!

Contribute financially to the booster fund. Every cent donated goes towards feeding the basketball team pre-game meals as well as helping to fill team equipment needs. You may click here to give online (select “Dunbar Boosters” in the dropdown menu) or write a check and include “Dunbar Boosters” in the memo line. If you have questions, reach out to Rachel Frey, rachel@newhopefortmyers.org.

Stay tuned for more updates from Dunbar basketball all season long. If you’d like to receive email updates, contact Rob Scharlau, rscharlau@comcast.net.

Go Tigers!
