New Hope eNews - December 12, 2025

New Hope is governed by a leadership team called Session. They are ordained Elders who care for the spiritual development of our church body and they establish the policies and procedures for our governance. Deacons are ordained to care and minister to the physical needs of our church body. It is an office of service to one another. Qualifications for these offices are described in Scripture in 1 Timothy 3:1-13, Titus 1:6-9, and 1 Peter 5:1-3.

Members have the opportunity until December 21 to nominate people for positions of elder and deacon. To nominate someone, you must be a member yourself and the person you nominate also needs to be a member. We ask that you also confirm with your nominee before you nominate them to know if they are willing to serve in this capacity.

Some important questions to ask as you consider nominating someone: Do they support New Hope and are they actively involved in some form of ministry? Is there a visible effort in the person to live a life pleasing to God, demonstrating Christlikeness? Are they a person of prayer and of the word? Are they a servant? Do they believe and practice the truths of Scripture? Remember that an elder is a shepherd over God’s flock, a teacher of God’s flock, and a servant to God’s flock. A deacon ministers to the needs of the congregation through care and compassion.

Nomination forms are available in the Lobby at the Welcome Desk or online at newhopefortmyers.org/nominate. Nominations will close on December 21, 2025.

BJ & KRIS DIGGINS: Wycliffe & JAARS

BJ and Kris are celebrating 30 years of ministry with Wycliffe and JAARS and are deeply grateful for God’s faithfulness and for New Hope’s faithful prayer and encouragement.

In 1999, Wycliffe and SIL launched Vision 2025, aiming to begin Bible translation in every language still needing it—then estimated at 3,000. At that time, more than 5,000 languages had no Scripture. As of August 1, 2025, only 544 of the world’s 7,396 languages remain without any translation work begun, and over 4,600 languages have been engaged since Vision 2025 began.

From Waxhaw, NC, B.J. has spent more than 18 years training and managing JAARS pilots. Recent milestones include two new pilots completing standardization training and continued aviation support for Bible translation in Papua New Guinea, where over 230 New Testaments have been completed with SIL-PNG.

BJ and Kris write, “What a joy it is to walk this journey, and we thank you for being part of it. We pray that each of you would seek first His kingdom and that the love of Christ would overflow into every area of your life.”
