VOLUNTEER SPOTLIGHT: KIM SCALES
Kim Scales was born and raised in Oklahoma, just outside of Oklahoma City. During her college years at Oklahoma Christian University, she met her husband, Mike. They have been married for 19 years and are parents to two children, Rylan (13) and McKinley (9).
Kim’s upbringing was steeped in strong Christian values with deep southern roots. However, the church she attended during her formative years instilled many legalistic views that sometimes made the presence of the Lord feel constrained. As she grew, she began to question many of her early beliefs. Mike entered her life just as this period of questioning began. A year after their marriage, they felt compelled to explore new horizons and relocated to Nyack, NY, just 20 miles from New York City. This move marked the beginning of a transformative chapter in her life, one where her faith became more personal and she was able to see God from a fresh perspective. Through divine guidance, both she and Mike secured positions at a Christian college in New York. “I witnessed the power of unity, the beauty of diversity, and heartfelt worship that felt like a foretaste of heaven,” she reminisces.
After enduring seven years of Nor'easters and snowy winters in New York, they yearned for a warmer climate and made Fort Myers their new home. Fort Myers became their new home and it was through MOPS that they discovered New Hope. "Our kids have been loved on and cared for at New Hope ever since and it has been one of the greatest blessings to our family."
Kim has served in various capacities and currently leads the 8th-grade girls' small group. As a parent of a middle schooler, she understands the unique challenges and opportunities faced by this age group. She is passionate about empowering young women to discover their God-given potential and live authentically for Christ.
Lee Memorial’s Blood Drive will be at New Hope on Sunday, April 13, from 8am-1pm. All blood donated will stay in Lee County and give life to those in our community. Click here to register your time slot!
NEW HOPE KIDS UPDATE
New Hope Kids bring lots of fun to Wednesday’s Family Nights. We’ve been continuing our walk through the Bible by highlighting some Biblical heroes, including Mary the Mother of Jesus, John the Baptist, and Peter. It’s always great to be reminded of how God uses ordinary people to fulfill His mission. And, of course, there’s never any shortage of fun, friendship, and food!
Make plans to join us for FamCon 25 from June 5-7 as we welcome children and families to our campus for TRUE NORTH – an adventure in learning to trust Jesus in a wild world! We need many volunteers to make this event a success! Click here to see how you can get involved!
JESSE & CYNTHIA FRAME
Jesse led a two-week training in Guatemala for a group of youth leaders from six Latin American countries. Unfortunately, two of the participants have been denied re-entry to their country of service. Pray for God’s intervention as they travel to the border with the hope of getting permission to reenter.
BE PRAYING FOR:
- Safety during travel on a public bus through potentially dangerous areas.
- Peace and calmness in the midst of a trying situation.
- Favor from the officials at the border.
- Ability to re-enter their country and get home.
