VOLUNTEER SPOTLIGHT:
JANET NORMAN

Janet was raised in Mt. Prospect, Illinois. She grew up in a loving family of five who walked to church together. They worshipped at Northwest Covenant Church, part of the Evangelical Covenant Church. Janet loved every aspect of church; Sunday School, VBS, youth choir, the worship service and youth group. She accepted Jesus as a child, thanks to a special Sunday school teacher.

Janet attended Augustana College and Northern Illinois University, graduating with a degree in elementary education. She taught in Illinois until she married her college roommate’s brother and relocated to Fort Myers in 1986. Mike and Janet joined Covenant Presbyterian Church and began volunteering. She taught Sunday School and coordinated VBS, while Mike served as a deacon and helped in the sound booth. Their two children, Matthew and Bethany, participated in Wednesday nights, Sunday mornings, and mission trips until they left for college in 2008. That’s when Janet and Mike became charter members of New Hope.

She had a successful career teaching Kindergarten at Edison Park. In 2015 she retired and began volunteering in Sunday School, VBS, and her favorite, mentoring young moms in the MomsNext program. She is currently serving as a deacon and attends the Empty Nest class.

Janet and Mike have been married for 39 years. She likes to read, fish, cook, and watch all sports. She LOVES spending time with her four young grandchildren. She is excited to see what the future holds for New Hope and shares that one of her favorite bible verses is Micah 6:8.

Juvie Jail Ministry Update

This past month, a dedicated team served eleven girls and three guards at the juvenile detention center. Bringing a message of Truth and Belief, the aim was to help the girls understand their current situations and guide them in making positive changes for the future. Through personal testimonies and scriptures like Matthew 28:28 and Romans 13:1-5, the team emphasized the role of laws and God's protection in everyone's life.

The girls were engaged, asking thoughtful questions as they listened to the message. Personal prayer requests from the girls highlighted their concerns for family health, emotional strength, and personal growth. They are seeking prayers for forgiveness, healing, and stronger relationships with God and their families.

As we reflect on this impactful visit, we urge our community to lift these young girls in prayer. Pray for their strength, healing, and the courage to walk a brighter path. Thank you! Your involvement is making a difference!
