To Our New Hope Family,

 

We are back from vacation and looking forward to seeing you. As you know, we had been looking forward to both time in NYC with Andrew and time in Canada. Our trip took a quick and unexpected turn as I experienced shortness of breath walking in NYC. Despite thinking this was a residual symptom of a respiratory infection I had been battling, we were prompted to visit an urgent care which led to the emergency room. Each doctor’s assessment encouraged further testing, the first of which was an echo cardiogram which indicated pulmonary hypertension. A series of tests would be needed to confirm a diagnosis. The pulmonary specialist in NYC walked us through preliminary results and made a phone call to a specialist in Orlando and arranged for me to be seen immediately. This specialist is no stranger to us as he is also Ashleigh’s doctor.

 

We flew to Orlando for needed tests, including a right and left heart catheterization. These tests confirmed what had been suspected – I was diagnosed with PAH, the same lung disease that Ashleigh has. I was admitted to the hospital to immediately begin receiving medications. Amazingly, in less than a week I was diagnosed and receiving treatment. While it all happened very fast and was difficult to process, as we reflect on the last weeks, we see clearly the Lord’s provision in the details. I had a front row seat to observe God’s mysterious hand of providence. His grace has been sufficient, and His power has been made perfect in weakness. I have experienced a deep peace that surpasses our understanding. While our vacation was spent in hospital rooms rather than on the water, it was precisely what we needed and we rejoice in an early diagnosis and treatment.

 

I am eager to return to work, aware that the next three months will be an adjustment as the medications are increased to optimal levels and will include travel to Orlando for appointments as needed. Please pray for these medications to be effective in managing the PAH, for the side effects to be manageable, for our family as they now deal with two of us with this disease, and for minimal interruption to the work at New Hope.

 

I look forward to being with you again this coming weekend as we continue our series in the book of Ephesians, and it sure is great to be home!

YOUNG ADULTS MINISTRY

THIS SUNDAY @ 7PM

Our Young Adults Ministry (ages 18-29 and out of HS) meets on the first and third Sunday night of each month. You can join us this Sunday, August 2, at 7pm in Room 212 for food, games, worship, and a message from God’s Word!

Thursday, August 6, is our next PB&J Day! You can bless homeless people in our community by dropping off pre-made, individually wrapped peanut butter and jelly sandwiches to the New Hope kitchen on Thursday by noon.

Join us in Wednesday nights in August for four learning opportunities that will move us from awareness to compassion and action! Each week, guest speakers will join Shari McMinn to focus on an area of need in our city. We will learn the needs, learn God's heart, hear stories from those involved, and discover practical ways to serve.

KIDS LOCK-IN RECAP!

 

What a weekend! Eighteen kids and seven incredible leaders gathered for our New Hope Kids Summer Lock-In, where faith, laughter, and unforgettable memories filled every moment.

 

We continued our Rainforest Falls FamCon adventure by diving into God's Word, discovering through the life of David that God is our safe place, and through John's vision in Revelation that God is forever! Our kids were reminded that no matter what they face, they can trust the God who is always with them and who promises an amazing future with Him.

 

Of course, there was plenty of fun, too! We enjoyed delicious meals together, cooled off in an enormous foam party with a giant slip 'n slide, and brought the energy with our favorite summer tradition, OMC (Organized Mass Chaos), where everyone joined in for a morning of messy laughter, teamwork, and excitement.

 

A huge thank you to our amazing leaders and volunteers who gave their time, energy, and love to make this weekend so special. We are grateful for the opportunity to pour into the next generation, helping kids grow in their faith while building friendships and creating memories that will last a lifetime.

Help us bless our neighbors in need! During the month of August, we will be collecting gently-used men's clothing, shoes, belts, and socks, as well as new personal care items such as soap, shampoo, deodorant, toothpaste, and toothbrushes for Rescue Mission. Your donations provide practical support and remind those in our community that they are seen, valued, and loved. Thank you for your generosity!

COLONIAL ELEMENTARY SCHOOL

Colonial Elementary School strives to improve educational opportunities for pre-k – 5th graders in disadvantaged families. One of their goals is to increase proficiency for all of their students, many of whom receive additional literacy help weekly. New Hope helps the Colonial community through regular support to staff and teachers, donations of school supplies for families, and sponsorship of various school events throughout the year.

 

THANK YOU for helping us collect school supplies in July for Colonial! These supplies will be a blessing to many students and help in their education!

 

BE PRAYING FOR Colonial's teachers and staff as they will be back to work this week. Pray for students as well when they start a new school year next week. May this be a wonderful year of learning and growth!
