Join us this Sunday as we continue our "Captive" sermon series. Pastor Sheldon will speak about "Substitute Gods" as we look at Romans 1:18-25.
“For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men, who by their unrighteousness suppress the truth. For what can be known about God is plain to them, because God has shown it to them. For His invisible attributes, namely, His eternal power and divine nature, have been clearly perceived, ever since the creation of the world, in the things that have been made. So they are without excuse. For although they knew God, they did not honor Him as God or give thanks to Him, but they became futile in their thinking, and their foolish hearts were darkened. Claiming to be wise, they became fools, and exchanged the glory of the immortal God for images resembling mortal man and birds and animals and creeping things. Therefore God gave them up in the lusts of their hearts to impurity, to the dishonoring of their bodies among themselves, because they exchanged the truth about God for a lie and worshiped and served the creature rather than the Creator, who is blessed forever! Amen."
Please join us for a Town Hall Meeting and Ice Cream Social this Sunday, January 12, at 4pm. Pastor Sheldon will give an update on the work and ministry at New Hope and then we will enjoy the fellowship of God’s family with an Ice Cream Social.

VOLUNTEER SPOTLIGHT:
CANDY ENGELMAN
Candy Engelman has lived and worked in Fort Myers, Florida for the last 50 years, but it wasn’t until she and her husband, Chick, joined New Hope that they truly found a home within a church community. “No other congregation has impressed us like New Hope,” says Candy. She is a member of the Lois Circle and enjoys Sunday School and Bible Studies.
Candy is a dedicated volunteer, always working behind the scenes to serve the church and its congregation. She has held various roles, including Deacon, and has served on many different committees. She is currently an Elder, and as such, she often reflects on the ways that the decisions they make have an effect on the whole church membership. “It is a responsibility but also a privilege to think that God has entrusted us with the care of His church. I know that I speak for the whole Session when I say that we are led by the Holy Spirit and are working for the good of His Church,” she expresses. ”What a blessing it is to be part of His Church family.”
Candy looks forward to the beautiful SWFL sunsets. “I think of what a glorious show God has put on for us,” she reflects. “After the rain, the cloud formations in the west make the most beautiful pictures. It reminds me that just like in our lives, if it wasn’t for the clouds, we would not see a beautiful sunset or the glory of our LORD. It takes hard times to appreciate the faithfulness, and love of God and the truthfulness of the Bible.”
